How to Disable Facebook Comments (on a Facebook Page)

Facebook doesn’t give you an option to disable all Facebook comments with the click of a button. However, Amit Giri knows how frustrating it can be run a Facebook page when people are constantly posting nasty things as comments. Obviously, to disable posts on your normal timeline by others, you must go into your Page’s settings under “Manage Permissions” and uncheck the boxes labeled “Everyone can post to YOUR PAGE TITLE’s timeline”, “Everyone can add photos and videos to YOUR PAGE TITLE’s timeline”, then select “Hidden from Page” under “Default visibility of posts by others on YOUR PAGE TITLE’s timeline:“.

Now, there is no option to disable comments on posts made by your page. Thanks Facebook. However, you can work around this using something EasySites.org has come up with. Find the box labeled “Moderation Blocklist:“. This blocklist is a list of words you have banned from appearing on your page. If someone has a post that includes one of these words, the post will be hidden from your page and you will be the only one who can view the comment. We have come up with a giant master list of 1,000 of the most commonly used words found by EasySites.org (Source: The Reading Teacher’s Book of Lists, Fourth Edition, © 2000 by Prentice Hall Authors: Fry, Kress & Fountoukidis) edited the formatting, and made it available for you here. Just copy and past the list below into the “ModerationBlocklist” section and people should have quite a hard time commenting on your posts. Obviously, they can still find a word or two not on your blocklist, however, all you need to do is add that word to your list if you find that someone managed to comment on your post.

Recap:

  1. Locate the “Moderation Blocklist” box under “Manage Permissions” in your page’s settings
  2. Copy and paste the master list of the 1,000 most commonly used words below into the “Moderation Blocklist” box
  3. Click “Save Settings”
  4. Add any additional words (separated by commas) to the list if someone manages to comment on a Facebook post in the future

Hope this helped and remember EasySites.org is available to manage social media such as Facebook pages as well as design and develop easy-to-use websites using WordPress!

How to recommend a Facebbok Page to Friends..

Abstract:
Give your friends the opportunity to ‘Like’ a Facebook Page that you administer

Do you administer Facebook Pages? Facebook Pages you’ve either created or become an administrator of? Then you have the ability to recommend your administered Facebook Pages to your friends!

I’ve been asked how to do this many times. I’ve decided to make a proper set of instructions and refer to this when I am next asked.

How to invite friends to your Facebook Page

  1. Visit the Facebook homepage. Click on the ‘facebook’ logo on the top left of the screen.
  2. Visit the Facebook Page that you administrate. I do this via the drop-down arrow on the top right. Then under ‘Use Facebook as:’ click on the Facebook Page you are about to recommend. If you administer many Facebook Pages you may need to scroll the mouse wheel over that list to see them all.
  3. Open the ‘Admin Panel’. Click the ‘Admin Panel’ button on the top right above the timeline graph if the ‘Admin Panel’ is not already open. The ‘Admin Panel’ has sections labelled ‘Notifications’, ‘Messages’, ‘New Likes’, ‘Insights’ and ‘Page Tips’ and sits on the very top of your Facebook Page.
  4. View your Facebook Page as your Profile (and not as the Page). With the ‘Admin Panel’ open, select the ‘Manage’ menu and choose ‘Use Facebook as (your Profile name)’. This switches you from seeing Facebook as your Page to seeing Facebook as your Profile. Note: If it says ‘Use Facebook as (your Page name)’ then leave this step; you are already viewing the Page as your Profile.
  5. Invite Friends to your Page. With the ‘Admin Panel’ open, select the ‘Build Audience’ menu and select ‘Invite Friends’. If you don’t see ‘Invite Friends’ then you are still viewing the Facebook Page as the Page – read ‘View your Facebook Page as your Profile (and not as the Page).
  6. Choose your friends. A dialogue box appears called ‘Suggest (Page name) to friends’. Tick people who you like to invite to the Facebook Page. Some people you may not be able to tick (you have invited them already, they are a fan already). Use the drop down on the top left of the dialogue box to filter the list of people. Refinements can be made for Recent Interactions, Search All Friends, by friends Locations, by Facebook Groups, by your friends list, Selected friends you ticked already.
  7. Submit your recommendation. Once you finalised your selection, click the ‘Submit’ button on the bottom right of the dialogue box. You receive a notification that your recommendation has been sent.

That’s it! You have successfully recommended Facebook Pages you administer to your friends!

Please read the following if you don’t see ‘Invite Friends’.
Not having ‘Invite Friends’ tells me that you are viewing your Page as the Page itself and not as your own personal Profile.
Pages do not have friends, therefore ‘Invite Friends’ is not available when viewing the Page as the Page itself.
Personal Profiles do have friends, and ‘Invite Friends’ does become an option when viewing your Page as your own personal Profile.
Step 4 is the one required to change viewing your Page from Page to Profile in order to see ‘Invite Friends’.
